Vienna Airport Terminals : Terminal 1, 1A, 3 and Which Airline Uses Which

Vienna Airport (VIE) runs as one connected building, but its terminal names still confuse first-time travelers. Your airline decides where you check in, every arriving passenger exits into the same hall, and "Terminal 2" appears in old guides even though nobody checks in there anymore. This guide sets out how the terminals work in practice, which airline uses which terminal, and what to expect in each one.

Quick Answer

Vienna Airport has three passenger terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 1A and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 has had no check-in since 2012.

Your airline decides your check-in terminal. Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, Emirates and Qatar Airways use Terminal 3. Ryanair, Eurowings, Turkish Airlines, British Airways, KLM and Air France use Terminal 1. easyJet, Vueling, Pegasus and many leisure carriers use Terminal 1A.

Terminal 1 leads to Gates B, C and D. Terminal 3 leads to Gates F and G. Terminal 1A has no gates of its own.

All arrivals end in the central arrivals hall in Terminal 3, Level 0. That is where drivers, taxis and trains are.

How Many Terminals Does Vienna Airport Have?

Vienna Airport has three active passenger terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 1A and Terminal 3. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are built against each other as one long complex. Terminal 1A is a separate, smaller hall standing opposite Terminal 1.

Terminal 2 is the airport's original 1960 building. Its check-in area closed in 2012 when Terminal 3 opened, and today it works as the entrance to the C and D gate piers. You will not find check-in counters there, so if an older blog, map or booking mentions Terminal 2, check your airline's current terminal in the table below.

Which Terminal Does My Airline Use at Vienna Airport?

This is the question most travelers have, and the answer depends only on your airline. The list below reflects the official Vienna Airport airlines-by-terminal list, last updated 15 October 2026. Assignments can change, so confirm on your booking or the airport screens on the day.

Notes on airlines people often search for

• Star Alliance exceptions: most Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 3, but Turkish Airlines, Aegean and LOT Polish Airlines check in at Terminal 1. Going to Terminal 3 for these airlines is a common mistake.

• Lauda / Laudamotion: Lauda Europe flies Ryanair-sold flights from Vienna. Check in with Ryanair in Terminal 1.

• Wizz Air: Wizz Air closed its Vienna base in March 2026 and does not appear on the airport's current list. If you hold a Wizz Air booking from Vienna, check your booking and the departure screens.

• Air Malta: Air Malta has been replaced by KM Malta Airlines, which checks in at Terminal 1.

• easyJet and Transavia: both are listed under their European subsidiaries (easyJet Europe, Transavia France) and both use Terminal 1A.

Vienna Airport Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the check-in hall for Ryanair, Eurowings and Norwegian (counters 151–162) and for most oneworld, SkyTeam and other full-service carriers, including British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, KLM, Air France, Turkish Airlines and Aegean (counters 173–196). Self check-in machines are available in Terminal 1.

After security, Terminal 1 leads to Gates B and C (Schengen) and Gates D (non-Schengen). Passengers on non-Schengen flights pass passport control before reaching the D gates.

Lounge in Terminal 1

The VIENNA Lounge sits on Level 2, after security and before passport control, so passengers on both Schengen and non-Schengen flights can use it. It opens daily from 04:30 to 22:00. Economy passengers on any airline can pay for entry (listed at €59 for up to three hours), and eligible premium cardholders and frequent flyers may enter free or at a reduced rate. A transfer shuttle links the lounge to Gates F and G.

Terminal 1 food and restaurants

• Before security (Terminal 1): Aïda (Viennese café), Trzesniewski (open sandwiches), Haferkater (porridge, opens very early), Burger King and a Billa supermarket.

• C gates: Daily Roast, Demel, Henry, Big Daddy, Juicy and the Bowl, Daily Bar and Do & Co Flight Bar.

• D gates: Johann Strauss (Austrian dishes), Ottakringer Zapfmeisterei (beer bar), Ciao a Tutti and Natoo.

Opening hours vary by outlet and season. Car Park 3 is the closest covered car park to Terminals 1 and 1A.

Vienna Airport Terminal 1A

Terminal 1A is a separate, compact check-in building directly opposite Terminal 1. It was built in 2005 as a temporary hall and now handles mainly low-cost and leisure carriers: easyJet, Vueling, Pegasus, Jet2.com, SunExpress, Corendon, Transavia, Air Arabia and several charter airlines, all at counters 111–132.

Terminal 1A has no boarding gates. After check-in and bag drop, walk the short distance into Terminal 1 for security and continue to your gate. Facilities inside 1A are limited, so most passengers eat and shop after security in the main building.

Tip for Terminal 1A flights

Holiday departures often check in at the same time, so queues at 1A can build quickly on summer mornings and weekends. Use online check-in where your airline allows it, and allow the full recommended time before departure.

Vienna Airport Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is the airport's newest and largest building. It opened in 2012 (it was called Skylink during construction) and is also known as the Austrian Star Alliance Terminal. Check-in is on Level 1. Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Luxair and TAP use counters 351–372. Long-haul and Gulf carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Air Canada, ANA, EVA Air and Korean Air use counters 301–348.

Terminal 3 leads to Gates F (Schengen) and Gates G (non-Schengen). If you are flying non-Schengen from a G gate, allow extra time for passport control after security.

Lounges in Terminal 3

• SKY Lounge: Level 2, after security and before passport control, open daily 04:30–23:00. Paid entry for economy passengers is listed at €49 for up to three hours. Eligible cardholders and frequent flyers may enter free or at a reduced rate.

• Austrian Airlines and Star Alliance lounges: Business, Senator and HON Circle lounges near the F and G gates. Entry depends on ticket class and frequent-flyer status.

Terminal 3 food, shops and services

• Before security: Bieder & Maier (Viennese café) and Brezel Meister.

• F gates: Jamie's Italian, Jamie's Deli, Jamie Oliver's Bar, Café Franzl, Leberkas-Pepi, Bierbar Oida!, Dean & David, Juice Factory, Veganista and The LaLa.

• G gates: Henry, Do & Co Bar, Do & Co Pizza, Trib's, Wiener Bierbar 1837 and Aïda.

• Shops: Vienna Duty Free, Austrian souvenir and specialty stores, and fashion and electronics outlets across the F and G areas.

• Services: Baggage storage and the lost property office are both in Terminal 3. Car Park 4 is the closest covered car park.

Vienna Airport Terminal 2: What It Is Today

Terminal 2 opened in 1960 as the airport's only terminal. When Terminal 3 opened in June 2012, Terminal 2's check-in area closed, and the building now serves as the entrance to the C and D gate piers.

In practice, you will never need to "go to Terminal 2." If a voucher, booking or older website mentions it, use your airline's current terminal from the list above instead. Buses, trains and taxis serve the main terminal complex and the arrivals hall, not a separate Terminal 2 stop.

Vienna Airport Gates and the Schengen Layout

Terminals are where you check in. Gates are where you board. At Vienna, each terminal feeds specific gate areas:

Gate area

Flight type

B

Terminal 1

Schengen

C

Terminal 1

D

F

Terminal 3

G

Terminal 3

There is no "Terminal C" or "Terminal G" at Vienna. Those letters refer to gate areas. If your boarding pass shows Gate G, you will usually check in at Terminal 3. If it shows Gate C or D, you will usually check in at Terminal 1 or 1A. Gate numbers can change after check-in, so watch the screens.

How to Get Between Terminals at Vienna Airport

Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 (landside)

Terminals 1 and 3 sit inside the same building, so you walk between them indoors on the departures level. There is no train or bus to catch. Terminal 1A stands opposite Terminal 1 and is a short walk away.

Between gate areas (airside)

After security, a shuttle connects the C/D gates with the F/G gates. It runs roughly every ten minutes from early morning to late evening, and the ride takes only a few minutes. Allow extra time if you need to change between Schengen and non-Schengen areas, because that means passing passport control.

Connecting flights

Transfer passengers stay airside and follow the "Transfer" signs. You do not need to exit into the arrivals hall unless your airline requires you to recheck bags or you are leaving the Schengen Area with a separate ticket.

Vienna Airport Terminal Map: How the Layout Works

Picture the airport as one long building facing the road. From one end to the other, it runs Terminal 1A (opposite) → Terminal 1 → Terminal 2 → Terminal 3. The C and D piers extend from the Terminal 1/2 side, the F and G piers extend from Terminal 3, and the central arrivals hall sits on the ground floor (Level 0) of Terminal 3. The railway station is beneath the complex, and covered car parks face the terminals.

Arrivals: Which Terminal Do You Land At?

Whichever terminal your flight used, every arriving passenger finishes in the central arrivals hall in Terminal 3 (Level 0). That is why most people searching "arrivals Vienna Airport which terminal" find the answer is always Terminal 3.

1. Leave the aircraft and follow the “Baggage claim / Exit” signs.

2. Passport control if you arrived from outside the Schengen Area. Schengen arrivals skip this step.

3. Collect your bags. Screens show the carousel for each flight.

4. Pass through customs (green or red channel).

5. Enter the arrivals hall. Tourist information, ATMs, currency exchange, car rental desks, ticket counters, the railway station entrance and the taxi rank are all here.

Food in the arrivals hall

The arrivals hall has some of the airport's longest opening hours: Burger King (around the clock on several days), Café Admiral, Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Anker bakery, Wolfgang Puck Kitchen + Bar, Dean & David, Ottakringer Zapfmeisterei & Leberkas-Pepi and a Wiener Würstelstand.

Where to Meet Someone at Vienna Airport

There is no separate arrivals area in Terminal 1, so the best place to meet arriving passengers is the central arrivals hall in Terminal 3. Agree on a fixed landmark, such as the tourist information desk or a named café, rather than "Terminal 1" or "the exit." If you are driving, the short-term car park K3 sits in front of the arrivals level.

With a TourlyTransfer private airport transfer, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign. Because the driver tracks your flight, the pickup time adjusts automatically if you land early or late. This removes the guesswork after a long flight, especially for families, business travelers and anyone with heavy luggage.

Departures: Check-in Times and Tips by Terminal

• Arrival time: Vienna Airport recommends arriving 2 hours before departure for flights under six hours, and 3 hours before flights of six hours or more and flights to Tel Aviv, New York and Toronto.

• Confirm your terminal: use the airline table above or your booking. Do not rely on a previous trip, because airlines do change terminals.

• Self check-in machines are available in Terminals 1 and 3. Most counters stay open until about 75 minutes before departure, but times vary by airline.

• Late-night check-in: some airlines, including Austrian, Lufthansa and SWISS, let you drop bags the evening before. Check with your airline.

• City check-in at Wien Mitte is suspended while the City Airport Train runs as a bus service (until 31 October 2027).

VAT Tax Refund at Vienna Airport

Visitors who live outside the EU can reclaim Austrian VAT on purchases of more than €75.01 per invoice. The process depends on where the goods are packed:

1. Goods in checked luggage: before check-in, go to a Digital Export Validation (DEV) area and validate your purchases on your phone or at a self-service kiosk. Then check in your bag.

2. Goods in hand luggage: pass security first, then validate at the DEV counter near your boarding gate.

3. Collect the refund in cash at an Interchange counter, or have it credited to your credit card.

Keep the goods, receipts and tax-free forms ready for inspection, as incomplete forms are rejected.

Smoking Areas

Smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas. The SKY Lounge in Terminal 3 has a smoking cabin for lounge guests. Outside the lounges, follow the terminal signage to the nearest designated area, and do not smoke in the general terminal or gate areas.

Common Terminal Mistakes to Avoid

• Going to Terminal 3 because your airline is in Star Alliance. Turkish Airlines, Aegean and LOT check in at Terminal 1.

• Looking for Terminal 2 check-in. It has not existed since 2012.

• Waiting for someone at a “Terminal 1 arrivals” exit. All arrivals use the central hall in Terminal 3.

• Expecting gates in Terminal 1A. You check in at 1A, then walk to Terminal 1 for security.

• Underestimating non-Schengen time. D and G gates require passport control, which builds queues during long-haul departure peaks.

• Assuming the CAT train stops inside Wien Mitte station. Until October 2027, the CAT runs as a bus to Marxergasse 1b, beside Wien Mitte The Mall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many terminals does Vienna Airport have?

Vienna Airport has three passenger check-in terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 1A and Terminal 3. A fourth building, Terminal 2, still exists but has had no check-in since 2012; it now serves as the entrance to the C and D gate piers.

Which terminal does Ryanair use at Vienna Airport?

Ryanair checks in at Terminal 1 (counters 151–162). Ryanair-sold flights operated by its subsidiary Lauda Europe use the same terminal.

Which terminal does Austrian Airlines use?

Austrian Airlines uses Terminal 3, counters 351–372, together with Lufthansa, SWISS, Brussels Airlines and most other Star Alliance partners.

Is Turkish Airlines in Terminal 1 or Terminal 3?

Terminal 1. Turkish Airlines is a Star Alliance member but checks in at Terminal 1 (counters 173–196), as do Aegean and LOT Polish Airlines.

Which terminal do I arrive at in Vienna?

All arriving passengers exit into the central arrivals hall in Terminal 3 on Level 0, whichever terminal their flight departed from. Taxis, trains, buses and pre-booked drivers all start from this hall.

How do I get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3?

Walk. Terminals 1 and 3 are part of the same building and are linked indoors on the landside. Airside, a shuttle runs between the C/D and F/G gate areas.

Is there a Terminal 2 at Vienna Airport?

The building exists, but you cannot check in there. Check-in moved out of Terminal 2 when Terminal 3 opened in 2012. If an old booking or website mentions Terminal 2, check your airline's current terminal on the official list.

Which terminal is Gate G in?

Gates F and G are reached from Terminal 3. Gates B, C and D are reached from Terminal 1. Gate D and Gate G serve non-Schengen flights, so allow time for passport control.

Does Wizz Air still fly from Vienna Airport?

Wizz Air closed its Vienna base in March 2026 and is not on the airport's current airline-by-terminal list. If you hold a Wizz Air booking from Vienna, check your booking and the airport departure screens for the check-in area.

Where can I get a VAT tax refund at Vienna Airport?

Non-EU residents validate goods at a Digital Export Validation (DEV) area before check-in for items in checked bags, or at a DEV counter near the gate for items in hand luggage. The refund is then paid in cash at Interchange or credited to a card.

Plan Your Arrival at Vienna Airport

Vienna Airport is easy to navigate once you know three things: your airline sets your check-in terminal, Terminal 1 serves Gates B, C and D while Terminal 3 serves F and G, and every arrival ends in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. Check your airline in the table above before you leave, and allow extra time for non-Schengen flights.

If you would rather skip the trains, bus changes and taxi queue, a TourlyTransfer private transfer meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your hotel at a fixed price.
